I am in DC today and am wondering if anyone is able to get pictures of the Triangle in the snow today? I too am from the DC area and moved here about 5 months ago. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but whatever snow we did get didn't really stay around long. I'd say about 1/2 inch fell on my yard and everything on the streets has already melted. What really made me mad was that I was already at work when I found out school was cancelled. I work for Wake County schools. This post has been edited by 27617: Jan 18 2007, 09:12 AM |

I'm still a little kid at heart. I get excited about snow. After having two years of nothing, getting snow today was like another Christmas.
I knew someone would want pictures, so I took some. Apparently I didn't have the battery power to store the ones I took when the snow was at its thickest (around 7:00 this morning). These are all around 10 or 12 o'clock, after rain and shovels had cleared snow off all the paths and roads. Guess where I am? We got around 2 inches here before it started raining. There are still patches. It's kinda funny to see those trees blooming (thanks to the heat of last week) right over a snowy ground. (IMG:http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/silly.png)

I scrambled to find my digital camera to get some shots of the snow, but couldn't find it. We had a bit more I think in Durham, though the grass was still poking through in some spots.
It's odd to have snow just two or three days after it was in the mid-70s. I couldn't believe schools were cancelled. I guess that ice storm from a few years ago freaked people out. |

downtown Raleigh was not too bad but elsewhere was much worse than I thought it would be...I drove in from Greensboro this morning around 7am and the pavement was covered in snow and ice from Wade Ave west...so many cars were wrecked it was almost comical....yet another reason to live and work downtown instead of relying on interstates for your lifestyle....I was just visiting my lady so I feel I am excused (IMG:http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/whistling.png)

I hope Flash was able to get some pics. I did get a few pictures, however the snow accumulation wasn't what I was hoping for, nor did it last long enough. Perhaps Sunday will be different? What I was able to capture: http://raleighskyline.com/content/2007/01/...ing-in-raleigh/ |

There are still patches. The windows in the NCSU library are a great way to distract myself from actually studying, and I spend a TON of time up on the 9th floor haha. There are some fantastic views from up there. I've been meaning to take my camera and post the pics on here. I was in the library the day of the snow... did you notice how you could barely see past the Brownstone Hotel that day? Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. |
